2025 DEFENSE AND SECURITY CONFERENCE (DSC 2025)

The University of Defense and Security “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” is pleased to announce the international and multidisciplinary 2025 Defense and Security Conference (DSC 2025), which will be held in Zagreb on April 4–5, 2025. The conference is intended for professionals, scientists, lecturers, and students, providing an opportunity for scientific discussion and the presentation of the latest trends, research, experiences, and challenges in the field of defense and security.
We invite you to submit abstracts by October 14, 2024, and full papers by February 14, 2025. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their papers by March 14, 2025.

Transatlantic Alliance – Challenges and Solutions

Dr. Franjo Tuđman Defense and Security University, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO and the 15th anniversary of the Republic of Croatia’s accession to NATO, organized the first one-day international conference, held on April 4, 2024. The topic of the conference was: "Transatlantic Alliance – Challenges and Solutions".

The conference discussed the future of NATO, its external and internal challenges and threats. In today’s time of tectonic security changes, the future of NATO depends on identifying key threats and the necessity of strengthening transatlantic cohesion. Therefore, the focus of the conference was directed toward a sustainable future of the transatlantic alliance through the presentation of potential solutions for all challenges and threats that allied countries are facing or will face.

After the introductory and welcome remarks delivered to all participants by the University Rector, Prof. Dr. Sc. Ivica Lučić, the Ambassador of the French Republic Fabien Guillaume Edmond Fieschi, the Ambassador of the United States Nathalie Rayes, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Zdravko Jakop, a panel discussion followed, moderated by the Assistant to the Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Gordan Akrap.

Panel participants included: Frank Gorenc, retired former Commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa and NATO Air Forces, General Erhard Buehler, retired former Commander of NATO Joint Warfare Center, Vice Admiral Didier Piaton, retired former Deputy Commander of NATO Allied Maritime Command (2020–2023) and member of the FMES Institute, Major General Slaven Zdilar, Commander of HVU FT, Dr. Sc. Nina Šoljan, Head of the NATO Political Affairs and Security Policy Section, General Mirko Šundov, former Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Admiral Robert Hranj, former Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Full Prof. Dr. Sc. Iztok Podbregar, Dean of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Maribor, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Kristijan Kotarski from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb.
