Course Description

To acquaint students with the purpose and types of artillery weapons and artillery instruments, accessories and ammunition. Distinguishing individual types of artillery weapons, getting to know the tactical and technical features of weapons, accessories and instruments, handling artillery weapons and the use and maintenance of artillery weapons and equipment in an artillery unit.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate the types of artillery weapons, distinguish them according to the criteria of construction characteristics.
  2. Discover historical development and the function within each phase.
  3. Analyze functionally dependent activity of each construction element.
  4. Apply accessories, instruments and devices
  5. Differentiate artillery ammunition and know how to apply elementary types of ammunition;
  6. Use the activities of gun crew at artillery weapons and take command over the squad during live firing.
  7. Use the available literature and materials on the Internet concerning artillery armament, fittings, instruments, devices, equipments and ammunition.
  8. Apply the acquired knowledge in further studying process and work in units after finishing the study;
  9. Use the acquired knowledge in working with the subordinates in the training process;
  10. Apply technical and technological achievements in the development of artillery armament, fitting, instruments, ammunition and equipment, educate professionally, upgrade and transfer knowledge and skills upon the subordinates:

Lectures: Artillery ammunition (division, components of a classic artillery charge, fuses, projectiles) 2; L: Servicing and maintenance AW: basic maintenance, technical maintenance and periodic inspections of artillery weapons, equipment and ammunition 2; Exercises: Service and maintenance of AW: check of the anti-recoil system, artificial recoil of the barrel, disassembly and assembly of the breech block 2

Lectures: Handling and maintenance of artillery weapons: crew, composition and tasks of crew 2; Exercises: Service and maintenance of AW: service work (disassembly, ready to fire, ready to walk) 2; E: Service and maintenance of AW: aiming with the optical sight, aiming with the panorama on the collimator, aiming with the panorama on the pickets, aiming at the distant target points 2

Lectures: 0 Exercises: Teaching visit to the artillery unit: Servicing and maintenance AW: main parts - description, purpose and principle of operation of weapons available in the artillery unit, e.g. PzH 2000HRV, SVLR "GRAD", SVLR "VULKAN", SH 122mm "GVOZDIKA", and meteorological station ("VAISALA") 6

Lectures: Adjustment of focused beam, normal beam and beam to target width (corrections due to beam, beam correction) 2; Exercises: Indirect shooting: aiming weapons in the AzBD, checking direction, determining the distance and offset of weapons, working according to orders for shooting, determining the repair of the beam, keeping the minutes of the platoon commander 4

Lectures: 0 Exercises: Artillery combat shooting at the artillery range: monitoring the performance of works and procedures with clarification and presentation by expert staff - instructors during: directing weapons in the AzBD, checking the direction, determining the distance and distance of the weapons, working according to orders for shooting, determining the repair of the beam, keeping records platoon commanders, the work of servers and squad commanders when serving weapons, preparing ammunition for shooting, etc. 6
